Utility SwopShop Weekly Market Insights Week Ending 21st March

Gas

GAS- UK gas prices declined on Thursday due to above-normal warm temperatures, with the NBP spot price dropping by 3% to 103 p/therm.

Summer 2025 gas prices dipped by over 1%, closing at 103.72 p/therm, as the UK continues to secure LNG shipments for March 2025, helping to bolster storage levels.

Power

POWER – British spot power price plummeted by 35% ending at 63.57GBP/MWh on Thursday, driven by stronger demand and a sharp increase in wind generation. 

Similarly, the Summer 2025 electricity contract lost 2% at 82.23 GBP/MWh, tracking bearish gas prices.
