A nationwide information campaign will be released in June to raise awareness and promote the benefits of E10 fuel which will be introduced in September.

An announcement earlier this year set a September release date for a nationwide rollout of E10 fuel pumps within our stations. Before this, the Government will launch an information campaign to raise awareness of the greener option and is set to begin advertising in mid-June.

The campaign will raise awareness and promote the benefits of E10 fuel towards net-zero. The information aims to encourage more petrol engine drivers to choose greener fuel when filling their tank by explaining how they can contribute without buying an electric vehicle.

Rachel Maclean, Transport Minister, said:

“This campaign will not only make drivers aware of the changes we’re making but will also show millions of motorists how E10 introduction plays a part in helping reduce carbon emissions and build back greener with every tank of petrol.”

As discussed in our earlier news article Petrol Stations Introduce E10 Fuel by September 2021 a key point was that the fuel will be compatible with around 95% of petrol engine vehicles on UK roads today. The compatibility and accessibility of the fuel will see more drivers opting to use the greener option over traditional E5 petrol. What is E10 fuel?

The E10 fuel mixture is a combination of 90% unleaded and 10% ethanol. The 10% ethanol is where the E10 name comes from. Currently, the standard fuel is E5 with a 5% ethanol mixture.

This fuel utilises a higher concentration of renewable energy which is produced by green material, known as biofuel or bioethanol. The green properties in E10 mean that it has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by 750,000 tons per year or the same as removing 350,000 vehicles in the UK.

Biofuel is produced from the decomposition of crops, sugars, grains and wasted food. These materials are given a renewable purpose by being produced into E10 fuel and are burned with lower emissions produced.
